A Smörgåsbord of Miscellania
What inspired me to get creative in this way yesterday afternoon was perusing the work of Terri Weifenbach, an established fine arts photographer who also teaches at the Corcoran School of Art.
I will be taking an advanced class on color photography there in the Spring of 2012 in which I will learn how to develop color prints from film (an ancient art form). Weifenbach is one of the teachers for this course, however, I will be taking the evening class with Jennifer Sakai, whose only reference I could find on the web was her Rate My Professors profile and an interview about her unique style.
(If you are reading this Jennifer please post a link to your work in the comments, I'd love to see it.)
It was selected as the Photo of the Day on DCist.com.
From the neighborhood files.

artdc Gallery is located at 5710 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD 20815, two blocks up the street.
Also, the Hyattsville Arts Fest will be featuring live music and I think it's worth pointing out that at 1 p.m. a reggae Beatles cover band called Yellow Dubmarine will be playing. Check out their version of "Something" on Reverb Nation.
I look forward to seeing you there and be sure to check out my images at 12 x 12!
It's been raining so much here in Prince Georges County, Maryland, that the mushrooms are going wild. For more pics of PG in the rain, see my series at hyattsville.patch.com.
On Saturday from 7-10 p.m. the gallery will be holding an opening reception (hey, you're invited!) with lots of wine, beer and food. I will be showing ten high dynamic (HDR) range photographs of the decrepit buildings along the Route 1 corridor in the Hyattsville Arts District. The goal of my photos was to capture these relics before the expanding development and growth claims them as their next victims. Often HDR photography focuses on beautiful landscapes, ornate rooms or halls, and cathedrals. I wanted to give these buildings in Hyattsville the same royal treatment.
For more photos of the install process, details about the reception, the other the artists showing their work, and the gallery itself, please read the article posted today on Patch.com.
