    Secrets-1
1600 Pennsylvania Ave., NW,  Washington D.C.

I was recently invited via a Google+ photo walk opportunity to photograph the South Lawn of The White House prior to the public opening of their annual Spring Garden Tour. My initial assumption was that they would have the Google+ photographers focus on the Rose Garden, however when we arrived the Rose Garden was closed to photography. Instead, The White House Vistor Center staff and their Digital Communications team gave us a tour of the South Lawn and a meeting with White House Photographer Pete Souza. This was a fantastic opportunity and a lot of fun, with Pete Souza's slide show of his favorite President Obama images being the petal on the icing of the cake.

Since there were no flowers to shoot I opted to focus on mystery and abusrdity. After all, being on the gounds of a beautiful house with a meticulously kept landscape dotted by security cameras and men in uniform with lethal weapons is quite a strange feeling. In the image above the fact that you can't see the face of the Secret Service agent and the woman's eyes in the background is obscured by her sunglasses suggest that there are many secrets being kept at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. We are not sure exactly what's going on but it seems full of intrigue. Perhaps, it can serve as a refelction on the current environment we live in today.

Over the course of the next week or so I will post more of my favorite images from The White House Spring Garden Tour 2012.

    The_road_1_of_1
Today I entered a Google Plus photo contest started by +Joseph Linaschke called "The Road". He gives you 3 hours to shoot, process and upload the image to a Picasa photo gallery. As fate would have it an old pair of red shoes were left in the street in front of my house. So I used them as my subject. You win this contest by the number of comments you receive on your image, so please help me out by leaving a comment in the Picasa gallery (https://picasaweb.google.com/linaschke/GlobalPhotowalkContest2011080614001700GMT#5637752501929382130) and re-sharing my post. I'd very much appreciate it.

For more about this contest see https://plus.google.com/107483714191607682955/posts/Qt8JszNwWtF.

Also, if you are not on Google Plus and would like an invite to join, please leave a comment below and be sure to include your email so I can send you the invitation.

I have been sucked into the vortex known as Google Plus for over a week now and I absolutely think it is the social network to end all other social networks. However, all of my time on G+ has meant neglect for my Twitter and Facebook friends. I found if I really wanted to share something I had to post it three times.

Now if you're like me and think the need to participate in and update yet another social network is as enticing as putting a nail gun to your head, you might want to stream line your posts following my five easy (well three really) steps below:

    The Steps

    1. Create an RSS feed of your public G+ posts by entering your Google Profile ID number after http://plusfeed.appspot.com/[YOUR GOOGLE ID GOES HERE]

    i.e. Here's mine: http://plusfeed.appspot.com/114767803040499829479

    2. Set up an account over at www.twitterfeed.com.

    3. Enter your G+ RSS feed and then connect them to your Twitter and Facebook pages by authenticating the Twitterfeed service.

    4. Optional - Twitterfeed has some great ways to manage how you post your G+ feed to Facebook and Twitter so it's worth looking at the customization options under "advanced".

    5. Done. You are now pumping your G+ posts through your other soc nets.

It's worth noting that you will only be sharing what you declare as public on G+. Which means, if you share something with a private circle it won't post over at Twitter or Facebook.

Ultimately this has been a great time saver and I have spent significantly less time on Twitter and Facebook as a result.

Let me know how this works for you.
